Israel
Israel was the second chain in the link for the Iran-Contra Affair, by selling arms and giving the money to Nicaragua. In return, Israel would receive arms from the United States.
"Israel transferred $1 million to a...Swiss bank account for the second arms shipment. This account had previously been used only for Nicaraguan Contra business. Of the $1 million, only $150,000 was spent on the weapons, the other $850,000 was diverted, by North, to be used to support the Contras. Ordinarily the entire million would’ve been paid back to the Israelis, but in this instance, North “told them we used it for the purpose of the Contras, and they acknowledged that and they never asked for the money back." |
Israel helped America by supplying the means to transport all of the munitions. Since America couldn't directly transport it to Iran, America transported the weapons to Israel. Israel then sold the weapons and supplies to Iran.
"McFarlane proposed their recently outlined arms-for-hostages deal that specifically called for the selling of 100 American made TOW antitank missiles to Iran via Israel in exchange for some if not all American hostages and open communications with Iran. America would also send replacement TOWs to Israel."
